Table Grapes

Grapes are the fruits of vine (Vitis vinifera). They grow up in the shape of bunches, consisting of a grape stalk and a number of grapes, more properly called berries. These berries are little and light coloured (yellow, golden yellow or green) in the so called “white grapes” or dark coloured (rose, violet or black) in the “black grapes”. On their turn, berries are made up of skin, pulp and seeds (grape pips).
Grapes are exploited especially for wine’s production and in this case are called wine’s grapes, but also used for food purposes, in quality of table fruits, both fresh (table grapes) both dried (raisins, used in cooking and in sweets’ preparation). Finally people can extract a delicious and healthy grape-juice from berries and a grape-pip oil from seeds.
The two main varieties of vine for grapes’ production are:
-
la Vitis vinifera, originaria dell'Europa, dalla quale derivano tutti i vitigni destinati alla produzione di uva da vino e di uva da tavola
-
Vitis Labrusca, original of North America, mainly devoted to table grapes’ production rather than to wine grapes.
